Repair of Fender Blues Deville Valve Guitar Amplifier
Fault - The amplifier keeps changing volume from loud to soft
Switched the amplifier on for a preliminary inspection, all seemed relatively good removed the back cover off to check things further and took the below picture and although I had not discovered the problem yet you can actually see the fault.
Whilst testing the amplifier it was indeed very strange, the sound disappeared to a very low volume and all of a sudden was back at full power at random intervals, suspecting a dry joint of some kind I put my glasses on and had a poke around, then I spotted the left hand speaker tag connector was hanging off as can be seen quite clearly bellow
The rivet holding the tag connector was completely broken causing the connectors to short circuit against the speaker chassis, so removed the speaker for repair
Carefully drilled out the old rivet without damaging the cone
Fitted a new rivet to fasten the tag connector to the chassis
Refitted the speaker
Re installed the valves and tested, the volume was now rock solid
Refitted the back cover - see the badge bellow
